Plyometrics can be described as “explosive exercises” which are usually performed in a short repetitive manner. Most athletes execute simple and complex jumps and call them plyometrics rather than jump training as it was called in the past. Plyometrics is a popular word for all types of jumps, and explosive exercises. Its use is so pervasive that it is even possible to find push-ups described as being plyometric. At least we can say that plyometric exercises require explosive strength and they are the opposite from isometric exercises, which involve the hold of a static position.
